375 White-barred Clearwing (Synanthedon spheciformis)

A two-year lifecycle, possibly three, overwinters as a larva

Recorded size range of fully grown larvae - 25 to 28mm

Usual larval stage August to the second or third May

Adult forewing - around 12 to 14.5mm. Flies mid-May to early July

Larval foodplants : Larvae feed inside the base of a trunk or roots of birch (Betula spp.) or alder (Alnus spp.)
